May Newsletter

May activities at school!

April Showers Bring May Flowers. Let’s hope the warm weather is here to stay as we have some exciting activities this May. We are in the home stretch just over 2 months until summer break.  The children have been busy little bees working on many different projects. Busy bees are happy Bees.

We spent the month of April focusing on Easter, Earth Day and special celebrations that families celebrate during the month. We also finished our first round of letters of the weeks.  For the month of May we are going to continue focusing on the formation of all the letters and the sounds they make.

We are working on the children’s self-help skills.  We encourage you to give some extra time at home to allow your child to develop these skills.  These skills could include but not limited to as putting on shoes, coats on using the flip method and any other outerwear on.  To promote self-confidence and independence in the children, we suggest shoes that are not lace-ups.

For our May activities, we will be exploring and discussing our Moms, Grandmas and all the important women in our lives, we will also be exploring numbers and nursey rhymes. We will be working on our names and talking about what makes us all so Special. There are some pretty exciting activities planned.

We have been working away on our Alphabet crafts and talking about the sounds of different letters.  All the children have been enjoying doing all the art. They are all very hands-on, which we love here in the classrooms. We are continuing with all the sensory play and incorporating some more open craft centers. Check out our calendar and menu for other key May activities.

Exciting news, we have booked our year end trip to Brooks farm. We will be going on Friday June 6th by bus.  The bus will be at the school for 9:15 so please arrive by this time, we will be back to the school by 2pm so on this day please pack a lunch for your child.  Additionally, parents and siblings are welcome to join, however we will not have room for everyone on the bus. Toddler parents do have to attend and be on the bus. There are 46 spots on the bus 20 children, 4 staff and 5 toddler parents this leaves space for 16 additional parents.  The fee for the children at the school will be covered; parents’ and siblings’ fees are not covered. A permission form will be going home shortly. Check out our Gallery for photos from our previous trips to Brooks Farms.

Our graduation has been set for Thursday June 26th in the evening starting at 6:30, this will also be the last day of school for the children.  School day will end at 12pm for everyone. We will be reaching out for some help with items to make this a magical even for the children.

As we approach the end of the school year we will be wrapping up our fundraising with a graduation t-shirt fundraiser and a year book fundraiser.

Message from the Board:

We’re excited to share that St. Andrew’s Co-op Playschool has been invited to join the CWELCC program (Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care). We’re working on the next steps for full enrolment and will keep you updated, especially about any fee changes. Thank you for your ongoing support!

To help us plan for the 2025/2026 school year, we’ll be sending a short survey via email to current families to see who plans to return or you can access here.

Our next board meeting is on May 21 at 7 PM, and all are welcome. Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will also take place virtually on the same day. AGM documents and voting info will be posted on our website.
