While you are out and about with your children we are also collecting sticks and leaves so if you see some and would like to bring them in that would be wonderful too.
Just a reminder as cold season is on its way, please ensure your child is in good health when they attend school. We encourage you to continue to use the school screening tool.
We still ask that if you haven’t done so already please bring in a picture of your child for our welcome board.
Throughout the year when the weather is nice, we would like to take the children for walks around the area when we can or maybe even visit the library. To do this we need all parents’ permission to leave the school property. This would not be an everyday thing but maybe once in a while. September Newsletter
Learn about what’s going on in the classroom in September.
We are all very excited to be back in the classroom this September after the summer break. The staff here at the school have done an amazing job to get everything set up and safe for the children. All the rooms look a little different. We are very excited to start the new school year off. All the children have started to settle in nicely and are getting used to their new routines.
There are changes that have been made this September and we have discussed with everyone. I would like to just remind everyone of some of the very important protocols that will remain in place.
- Please remember to call in every morning before arriving to answer the health screening questions. 905-472-1996.
- Drop-off in the morning will take place at the back door for entry. Parents will enter up the stairs to the doors, where Teacher Tara will meet you and take your child’s Temperature and then take them to their teacher.
- Pick-up will look very similar to drop-off, same procedures.
- Each day a folder will go home with your child it may have something in it it may not. Please remember to bring this back every day as this will be our communication as we will not have a lot of time at drop off and pick to discuss things. I (Tara) will be going over these every day.
I would like to ask all parents to bring in a little picture of their child and family so we can incorporate them into our daily activity and a special activity.
On a monthly basis, a snack menu will be going home at the start of the month along with a monthly calendar that will outline any special events that will be going on that month. We remind you that if your child has any food allergies please let us know so we can plan accordingly. This year we are going to do a 4 week rotating snack menu. This way we can find what the children like and dislike. If you have any suggestions or anything you would like to see please don’t hesitate to speak with Tara about it.
We are excited to announce our first school field trip. It will be on Thursday, September 28th, we will be going to the Markham Fair. We will meet at the main entrance at 9:00 a.m. A permission form is below.

Preparing for Your First Day of School!
The first day of school is Wednesday, September 6.

The anticipation is building as the first day of school at St. Andrew’s Co-op Playschool approaches on Wednesday, September 6th. For parents and toddlers alike, this is a significant milestone that marks the beginning of an exciting educational journey. As the big day draws near, here are some things you can do to prepare your little ones for preschool success:
1. Establish a Consistent Routine:
- Start adjusting your toddler’s daily routine to align with the school schedule. Set regular wake-up, mealtime, and bedtime routines to ensure a smooth transition.
2. Visit the School in Advance:
- Find a time to walk or drive by the school a few days before the first day. Familiarizing your child with the environment can ease anxiety and build excitement.
3. Socialize and Playdates:
- Encourage playdates with other children to help your toddler develop social skills. Sharing, taking turns, and playing together can make the classroom experience more enjoyable.
4. Talk About Preschool:
- Engage your child in conversations about the upcoming playschool experience. Discuss what to expect, the fun activities they’ll do, and the friends they’ll make.
5. Pack Your Bag and Label Everything:
- Pack extra clothes for accidents, a sweater, and indoor shoes.
- If your child is not fully potty-trained, pack lots of diapers or pull-ups, and wipes to keep at the school. We will let you know when we run out and your child needs more.
- Label your child’s belongings, including backpack, lunchbox (if in the extended-day program), and spare clothes. This helps prevent mix-ups and ensures everything returns home.
- If you need labels, St. Andrew’s Co-op Playschool is running a fundraiser with Oliver’s Labels and 20% of every order goes toward the school.
6. Practice Independence:
- Encourage your toddler to complete simple tasks independently, like putting on shoes, using the restroom if able, and washing hands. These skills will foster confidence at school.
7. Read Books About Starting School:
- Explore children’s books that focus on the first day of school. Reading together can help your child relate to the experiences of fictional characters and alleviate any fears.
8. Create a Special Goodbye Ritual:
- Establish a brief and reassuring goodbye ritual. A hug, a kiss, or a special handshake can help your child feel secure as you leave.
9. Pack a Comforting Item:
- Let your toddler bring a small comfort item, like a favourite toy or a family photo, to school. This can provide emotional support throughout the day.
10. Stay Positive and Calm:
- Children often mirror their parents’ emotions. Stay positive and calm while discussing school to help your toddler feel excited rather than anxious.
11. Prepare for Separation Anxiety:
- Be prepared for possible separation anxiety. Reassure your child that you’ll return and praise their bravery for going to school.
12. Practice Listening and Following Directions:
- Engage your child in activities that require them to listen and follow simple instructions.
13. Celebrate Achievements:
- Celebrate small accomplishments, whether it’s trying on the school uniform, completing a puzzle, or sharing a toy. Positive reinforcement builds confidence.
14. Health and Safety First:
- As part of our commitment to maintaining a healthy environment, we will be conducting temperature checks at the school entrance each morning.
- If your child is not feeling well or displays any signs of illness, we kindly request that they stay home to recover.
- Ensuring the well-being of all students is our top priority, and your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Let’s work together to create a safe and nurturing environment for all the little ones at St. Andrew’s Co-op Playschool.
15. Review the Parent Handbook:
- Familiarize yourself with the St. Andrew’s Co-op Playschool Parent Handbook before the first day. It contains essential information about school policies, procedures, and contact details.
- This resource will empower you with valuable insights, ensuring a seamless experience for both you and your child.
- You can access the Parent Handbook here.
The first day of school is a monumental occasion for both toddlers and parents. By implementing these strategies, you can ensure a positive and smooth transition into the preschool environment at St. Andrew’s Co-op Playschool. Remember, every child is unique, so tailor these tips to your child’s personality and needs. Here’s to an exciting journey filled with growth, learning, and new friendships!
We look forward to seeing all our new and returning students on Wednesday, September 6!
